The lead wasn't bad. The handoff was.
A contractor told me his leads were bad.
So we tested the path.
We called after hours. Voicemail.
We submitted the website form. No confirmation.
We waited for the first follow-up. It came the next morning.
Then we clicked the booking link. Four fields, two dropdowns, one dead end.
The campaign had generated intent.
The handoff lost it.
Four places to test this week
1. The call
Call your own business after hours.
What happens when nobody picks up? Does the caller get a useful next step, or just a beep?
2. The form
Submit the shortest form on your site from your phone.
Do you get a confirmation? Does your team get an alert? Can anyone tell where the inquiry came from?
3. The follow-up
Time the first response.
A buyer looking for an HVAC repair, attorney, or same-week appointment is not waiting politely for tomorrow.
4. The booking step
Try to book.
Count every field, click, and decision between “I need help” and “I have a time.”
The rule
Do not buy more traffic until the current traffic has somewhere reliable to go.
A working system connects four jobs:
Find → Answer → Book → Prove.
Find the buyer. Answer while intent is high. Make booking easy. Record which source produced the booked work.
That is a closed loop.
Everything else is a lead report.

P.S. Run the four tests yourself before asking your agency. The path should work when nobody knows it is being inspected.
